Keres Consulting Inc., a Native American-owned general management consulting firm headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., has hired Dan Spilman as energy engineer in its Frederick office. He has provided energy conservation expertise to projects for Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and others.

Keres Consulting, Inc. has hired Dan Spilman to serve as Energy Engineer for the company’s work in energy and sustainability initiatives. Spilman, who joined the company in February, is already supporting a nationwide energy conservation program for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which Keres began implementing in 2010.

David will support the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP). David will review draft Cooperative Agreements, develop and maintain program reports, and coordinate with tribes and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) districts to track progress on program objectives and expenditures.

Jeremy Malnar recently received his Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification from the Association of Energy Engineers. Malnar is an Energy Engineer and has been with Keres Consulting since 2011.

Keres Consulting has graduated from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) business development program.
The 8(a) designation helps small disadvantaged businesses compete for federal contracts. The nine-year program provides mentoring, procurement assistance, business counseling, training and financial, management and technical help.

Keres today graduated from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 8(a) Business Development Program. Keres, which received its 8(a) designation in July 2003, completed the nine-year program with average annual revenues of $6 million and 50 employees nationwide.

Native American-owned Keres Consulting, Inc. will be recognized Friday, May 4 at the 16th Annual American Indian Business Association(AIBA) Honor Banquet with the 2012 American Indian Entrepreneurial Leadership Award. The award is given annually to an individual firm for its impact on the community and AIBA students.

March 25 marked the 23rd annual Bataan Memorial Death March at the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The march has been an annual honor in remembrance of the soldiers who defended the islands of Luzon, Corregidor and the harbor defense ports of the Philippines during World War II according to the Bataan Memorial Death March website. For the past three years Keres Consulting, Inc. a federal and tribal consulting firm owned by Timothy Chavez, a Pueblo of Acoma member, has joined in the march. Staff members march in honor of fellow Pueblo of Acoma member and Bataan Death March survivor, Sam Antonio according to a press release by Keres.

Keres Consulting, Inc., an Albuquerque-based government contractor that specializes in asset management and sustainability, engineering and environmental support services, recently volunteered to assist in mitigating flood risk following the disastrous aftermath of the Las Conchas fire. Keres staff helped fill some of the 30,000+ sandbags at the Santa Clara Pueblo in preparation for the summer monsoon season. Among Keres staff, Alicia Ortega a UNM student in the Anderson School of Management and a summer intern at Keres Consulting, was especially happy to help in the effort as she is from the Pueblo of Santa Clara.

Sam J. Antonio, Pueblo of Acoma, is a military veteran, was joined by approximately 6,400 military and civilian participants from all 50 states and five countries for the 22nd Annual Bataan Memorial Death March at the White Sands Missile Range on March 27th.

In 2009, federally recognized tribes across the U.S. received a collective $54.8 million in federal funding from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program to support energy efficiency and conservation initiatives. These funds are critical to the path forward for new and established tribal energy programs, yet many tribes are struggling to mobilize their energy plans.
